Kraftway Technology Breakthrough

Kraftway announces a new family of multi processor G-Scale systems based on Intel® Itanium® 2.

December 10, 2003

After its breakthrough in the server sector of the market, Kraftway, a leading Russian computer and server manufacturer, announces a release of a new multi processor server family based on last-generation Intel® Itanium® 2. As of today, Kraftway is the only Russian production company to offer the systems of similar class and complexity.

Kraftway G-Scale 6008 and 6016 servers are SMP-systems supplied in 36U' rack cabinets. They support up to eight/sixteen processors respectively and provide opportunities for clusterization. Each server includes a console for centralized management of system environment, operation system, servers, storage devices, and storage area networks (SAN). Servers operate on Windows® or Linux® operating systems.

G-Scale servers are intended for critical business applications, high performance computations and disaster-proof cluster systems development. They are primarily positioned as data centers and may represent a good solution for the computation centers of federal ministries and departments, as well as large corporations (especially those utilizing integrated ERP systems) and scientific organizations.

Due to their 64-bit architecture, Kraftway G-Scale 6008 and 6016 servers secure large informational arrays processing when running resource-intensive applications like Business Intelligence, ERP, CRM and others. EPIC (Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing) technology provides for faster processing of complicated commands and floating-point operations, which counts when utilizing such servers for resource-intensive scientific, technological, and design computation tasks.

Kraftway G-Scale 6008 and 6016 exceptional scalability is based on the use of a special FSS switch unit (FAME Scalability Switch) and Intel® E8870 chipset, thus enabling to develop four-, eight-, twelve-, and sixteen processor systems based on Intel® Itanium® 2 processors. Besides, Kraftway G-Scale 6008 and 6016 servers are compatible with the next generation of Intel® Itanium® 2 processor family. Its unique specifications make G-Scale a real alternative to powerful RISC-systems.

As a platform for G-Scale development, FAME architecture, provided by Bull Corporation, has been chosen: its architecture, according to Kraftway experts, provides for the best implementation of the ccNuma technology based on Intel® Itanium® 2 processors. In addition to the processor module, G-Scale system is equipped with an external disk array, thus representing a balanced ‘server-data storage system' solution. In the near future, this complex is planned to be provided with management software in Russian.

All G-Scale systems are provided with an extended five-year warranty allowing for on-site maintenance. Taking into account its hardware complexity, Kraftway has included in a standard warranty package a number of additional services, such as hardware installation facility check, compliance of customer hardware placement requirements with Technical Conditions, personnel training recommendations, basic settings network adjustment, preset operating system initialization, and hardware modules start.

The prime factor that will enable G-Scale successful promotion in the market is Kraftway's Center for Server Solutions, which secures the support and provides expertise in:

  • business and high performance computing applications implementation;
  • enterprise level applications implementation (data storage, ERP/CRM systems, databases, e-infrastructures);
  • performance optimization, platform sizing, and infrastructure development;
  • applications transfer and optimization as to Intel® Itanium® (Windows® or Linux®) architecture.® Itanium® (Windows® èëè Linux®).
Commenting upon Kraftway server family extension and the production of a fundamentally new hardware class — multi processor G-Scale systems, Alexey Koudriavtsev, Kraftway CEO, says: "In addition to a number of unique technologies in our portfolio inaccessible to other Russian companies, today, through the release of multi processor G-Scale systems, we have once again demonstrated to the market our tremendous intellectual and technology potential. We have accomplished a qualitative leap to a fundamentally new level: after announcing multi processor systems, we have entered into a narrow circle of selected companies possessing similar technologies. The qualitative extension of the server series, performed through system complication and capacity increase, is an appropriate step on the side of the market leader enabling us to realize our most ambitious high performance computation projects and make high technologies available to a wider range of Russian customers."
