Kraftway extends its GEG Express Blade server series
January 19, 2004
The Kraftway Company, a leading computer and server manufacturer in Russia, announces an expansion of its GEG Express Blade server series.
Being the only Russian manufacturer of blade servers, Kraftway announces a new four processor blade module based on Intel® Xeon MP 2.80-GHz processors. The new module width is twice larger than that of the two-processor configuration announced in autumn 2003. GEG Express Blade universal chassis allows for installation of up to seven similar modules. Besides the compactness of their solution up to 28 processors in a single 19' and 7U chasis four processor modules provide for a substantial increase in the system overall performance due to migration to MP architecture. With the emergence of new four processor modules realization, the GEG Express Blade system is able to demonstrate a unique volume-to-performance and price-to-performance ratio, due to its highly integrated construction.

Showing great specific performance per volume unit, the GEG Express Blade compact systems provide customers with large server facilities to utilize available capacities in a more efficient manner and substantially save their working space, as well as reduce electric energy consumption. The convenient handling of all GEG Express Blade server modules from a single console leads to a substantial decrease in expenses for system administration.
The new module is equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet controllers, and allows for installation of up to two ATA 100 or Ultra320 SCSI hard disks (available in an optional storage expansion unit which connect to the blade module), which can be combined into RAID level 0 or level 1. Besides, the new module can be equipped with additional high-speed interfaces like FiberChannel and Myrinet.
The distinguishing feature of Kraftway GEG Express Blade is an opportunity to combine two processor modules with four processor modules in a single chassis, and install different operating systems on various modules depending on tasks performed. All blade modules produced are certified for compatibility with Microsoft Windows 2003 Server и Linux Red Hat. The GEG Express Blade servers warranty is valid for five years, including on-site system maintenance during the first two years.
Due to its high performance in dealing with large informational arrays (e.g. with huge databases), the four processor GEG Express Blade can be successfully applied to the R&D automation, as well as used in telecommunications, banking, and industrial companies.
Commenting on the market entry of the new blade system, Alexey Koudriavtsev, Kraftway Computers CEO, says: "The emergence of new four processor blade modules in our range of products is a next step on the part of Kraftway as a leading company in the Russian high-tech market and the only high-tech representative of Intel in Eastern Europe. In offering our customers wider opportunities for choosing optimal configurations to achieve their objectives, we demonstrate a flexible approach to understanding of our clients' needs and requirements. Building on our expertise and blade architecture experience, as well as considering the market's great interest in the solutions of the same class, we have all good reasons to expect usage growth of our systems in Russian enterprises."
